Editor Talk…

Certainly one of the best machines on the market: although it is now outdated in the resolution is, in my opinion, the best entry point into digital photography serious: very easy to use fully automatic mode achieves perfectly the flexibility of a professional when set in manual mode.

The menus allow you to set parameters very useful (for example, the automatic correction of the diaphragm in the exposition – a little too bright in setting up the factory in my opinion) and are very complete.

The methods of image processing, useless if you shoot with the RAW format only, are very good and allow us to obtain spectacular images without harsh treatment in post production.

The manual is very clear and comprehensive, the software supplied with the machine (at least in the version for OSX) is pretty useful and easy to install and to subsequent use.

Pros:
• Good resolution
• Excellent image quality
• Nice features/settings
• Easy to use
• Good battery life
• Quick Start-up time
• Relatively low price

Cons:
• The optics normally present in the kit (the 18-55 IS) is not really much
• The viewfinder is adjustable making it tough shooting in the poor condition (ground level or in tight spaces)
• No internal memory
• The modification of some parameters in manual mode is not immediate as I’d like

  1. I’m particularly unhappy about the lack of multitasking ability. If it can’t multitask, what earthly use is it? (And it’s too big for an e-reader; I’ll stick with my Kindle.)

Fantastic stuff you’ve got here. It’s a real treat to read.
